Angie Stone, Grammy-nominated singer Angie Stone has sadly passed away at the age of 63. He died in a car accident in Montgomery, Alabama. He died on March 1, 2025. The singer was leaving a performance when the accident happened, according to the Alabama law enforcement agency, it was on I-65 around 7.00 a.m.
Angie Stone Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Angela LaVerne Brown was born on December 18, 1961 in Columbia, South Carolina. He sang gospel music at First Nazareth Baptist Church, in a local gospel quartet. When she was just 16 years old, she co-founded her first all-female hip-hop group. The Sequence was one of the first female hip-hop groups, and their 1979 hit “Funk You Up” was the first of its kind.
Transition to R&B and Solo Success
After The Sequence disbanded in the mid-1980s, Stone turned to R&B. After The Sequence broke up, Stone joined groups like Vertical Hold and Devox, where she improved his skills. In 1999, Stone released her debut album Black Diamond, which included the single “No More Rain (In This Cloud)”. Then she released another album, Mahogany Soul, in 2001, which included “Wish I Didn’t Miss You”.
Collaborations and Musical Influence
Angie Stone collaborated on several projects with D’Angelo, Alicia Keys and Snoop Dogg, influencing artists such as himself. He wrote songs for D’Angelo’s Brown Sugar and then Voodoo in 2000. She helped with the work of many artists from her time.

Stone was still active in May 2023, releasing her tenth studio album, Love Language, which featured Musiq Soulchild and her son Swayvo Twain. Her last performance was at the 2025 Grand Marshal Ball in Mobile, Alabama on February 28, 2025. The show showed her passion for music.
